Background of Dwyer Photography
Jim Dwyer created Dwyer Photography, Inc. in 1986, specializing in on-location, photojournalistic images for clients within the corporate sector, educational institutions and health-care industry. Jim counted among his clients: IBM; Lever Bros.; Fuji Film; Bank of New England; Shawmut Bank; Harvard University; Wellesley College; MIT; the Joslin Diabetes Center; Tufts – New England Medical Center and Mount Auburn Hospital.
Jim’s images have appeared in a number of corporate publications plus USA Today, the Times of London and other editorial publications as well as annual reports and advertising. In addition to CEO’s and university presidents Jim created portraits of during this time, Jim photographed former President George Bush; Julia Child and former NBA all star and Boston Celtic Dave Cowens as well as current Secretary of State John Kerry. In 1990 Jim was honored as being one of the top emerging commercial photographers in New England by the Art Directors Club of Boston and ASMP. Since then, Jim has won awards from both Kodak and Fuji Film for his commercial work.
Since 1991 Jim has specialized in weddings and the portraiture of families and children. Jim’s wedding photography has appeared within an editorial context in Town and Country, Modern Bride and The Boston Herald once devoted three-fourths of a page to one of Jim’s bridal portraits. Jim’s most well known wedding client was former NFL quarterback Todd Collins. Among the most well known clients Jim has created portraits for include: the children of former New England Patriots Chief Operating Officer Andy Wasynczuk; former Genzyme CEO Henri Termeer and his family; Don Sweeney (Boston Bruins) and his family; Pulitzer Prize nominee John Cooper of the University of Wisconsin; pop divas Oleta Adams and Melissa Manchester; and Boston Celtics CEO, Chief Financial Officer Richard Pond and his wife; Len Czarnecki (former general manager, Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel) and his family.
Jim has been named the top portrait photographer in Massachusetts by the Agfa Film Corporation.
Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin with honors in his major in a department ranked within the top ten in the United States (history: European and American). Upon graduation, Jim received a Lyndon Baines Johnson Grant to serve on the Washington staff of former Massachusetts Congressman Gerry Studds. Jim spent four years as an award-winning newspaper reporter. Prior to starting his photography career, Jim began his MBA at Boston University. Jim and his wife, Marge, have been married for 36 years and will attest to the very many benefits of both marriage and having a family. Throughout their marriage, Marge has specialized in communications for academic institutions within the health-care field. Marge is currently an editor and writer for the Harvard School of Public Health. Jim and Marge have two children, a son working in finance and another son who is a speech pathologist at a children’s hospital ranked within the top four in the US. For the past ten years Jim has been on the board of directors of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association/Boston Chapter, and a member of the Professional Photographers of America. Jim is an avid tennis player (particularly singles), loves to travel to Europe (especially Italy) and visit art museums and galleries (photographing his favorite works of art, when permitted).
